Senior specialist on enterprise, cooperatives and rural development – International Labour Organization (ILO)
Philippe currently works for the Sub regional Office of the Andean countries of the ILO, based in Lima, Peru. He started working for the ILO in 1997 covering countries in West Africa (based in Ivory Coast), was assigned to the ILO headquarters (in Geneva) for seven years before managing a regional programme on cooperative businesses in East and Southern Africa (based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania). Philippe has extensive experience and knowledge on issues related to the world of work, including employment, social protection, enterprise development, cooperatives and rural development in Africa and South America. Before joining the ILO, Philippe Vanhuynegem worked for a consultancy firm on banking and telecommunication for the private sector in Europe. After graduating as an economist of the University of Brussels (ULB), Philippe started his career as research fellow at the Research Center of Applied Economics of the ULB. He also has a masters degree in Econometrics and has published a several studies on social protection, cooperative and other labour related issues. He is married and has two children.
