Barrister Legal Counsel – UK – Nigeria – Turks and Caicos Islands
Stephen was called to the Bar in 1993. He is Senior attorney of F Chambers in the Turks and Caicos Islands and practices as sole practitioner with Bethel Chambers in the UK having formerly practiced at 5 Essex Court, 9 Bedford Row.
He has specialized for most of his career in all levels of criminal defence work appearing in complex and serious criminal cases including financial crime and murder in both jurisdictions. His practice also includes acting in proceeds of crime and regulatory proceedings for client’s appearing before professional bodies. He appeared alone in the important Court of Appeal case of R-v- Mutede and more recently as junior counsel before the Supreme Court in the case of R-v- Waya.
Stephen also uses his extensive contacts in Nigeria to undertake some commercial and common law work with an emphasis on cross border work for clients based in West Africa and the Caribbean and uses his extensive list of fellow professionals to provide his clients with the best advice and level of representation. He has an interest in general commercial work including sports, entertainment and energy law.
As a member of F Chambers in the Turks and Caicos Islands he has appeared as lead counsel in murder cases and a Corners inquest on the Island and has advised in general litigation. He is instructed in the Government corruption case in the Turks and Caicos.
He recently was a legal commentator in the Oscar Pistorious trial.
